I decided to do a "Mystery Dinner" for my kids for FHE. I worked all day to make everything and get everything prepared that I could. Then I had to find hiding spots for all the stuff so they wouldn't see. Layne took them to get some pumpkins for carving while I decorated a bit and put the calzones in the oven. When they came home we took them straight downstairs through a crepe paper covered doorway and sat them at the table. They all looked at their menus and filled them out...hoping that they would wind up with something good for each course. (For those of you who have not ever been to or had a mystery dinner, there are code names for each dinner item, including utensils. Each course is taken away after eaten, including utensils. Then the next course is brought out.) They each did fairly well. They loved it. Problem solving skills were used when no utensils were available. Lots of fun was had by all. Here were the menu items:
-Ghostly apparel (napkin)
-Swamp stuff (water)
-Grave digger (spoon)
-Worm's delight (apple juice)
-Vampire's treat (red jello)
-Sticks & stones & skeleton bones (carrot & celery sticks & olives)
-Pumpkin patch (salad)
-Count Dracula's Coffin (calzone)
-Guillotine (knife)
-Witches Brew (rootbeer)
-Devil's tool (fork)
-Peter's Revenge (pumpkin ice cream)
-Mummy mound (mummy cupcake)
